About the Monadnock Region
The Monadnock region is named after Mount Monadnock , which presides over the peaceful valleys and charming vistas of South Western New Hampshire. This quiet region of the state is "the road less traveled" and those who visit return year after year. There is no major highway to get you here, although it is a mere two hours from downtown Boston. You won't find large shopping malls, just quaint New England villages, and for the nightlife you'll have to make do with the sounds of peepers and crickets. The region offers its visitors many natural splendors such as Mount Monadnock, Cathedral of the Pines, and The Rhododendron State Park. There is a covered bridge tour, Historic Inns to sample, residential working farms, and our berries to pick. If you would like more information about this region, click on some of the links below.
Regional Events During the Summer Season: The Fitzwilliam Antique Festival is usually the 2nd or 3rd weekend of July and Troy Arts Festival is usually the 3rd or 4th weekend, and there is usually a Richmond Blueberry Festival around that time too. The Cheshire Fair is for five days during first week of August, The Jaffrey Fireworks Display is around the 2nd week of August (we are usually understaffed on that evening because none of us want to miss it!) the Keene Art Walk is in mid august and the Keene Music Festival is usually during the first week of September. The Keene Farmers Market is on Saturday and Tuesday mornings from May through October in the parking lot behind the bus stop and Margarita's, next to the skate park. The Town of Troy Troy may be a small town but it offers excellent accomadation at the Inn at East Hill Farm , baked goods, pizza and other yummy treats at Gap Mt Breads, asian food at Dragon Palace and pizza and subs at Fat Boys, craft supplies at Common Crafts, hardware at the Village Barn, discount groceries at Stan's, videos and DVDs at Mt. View video, antiques and furniture at Chandler's Wheel, and a town museum. There is a playground and skatepark at Sand Dam and the trail up Gap Mt can be accessed from Gap Mountain Rd on Rt 12 south of town. The Troy Arts Festival is usually the last weekend in July, and other events are scheduled throughout the year. Troy at NewHampshire.com and Troy Business Listings OTHER IMPORTANT LINKS
