BLUEBERRY VARIETY GUIDE

Here at Monadnock Berries we grow and sell individual container potted blueberry plants. We have several different varieties ranging from early to mid and late season cropping, all suitable for our area of New England. Our plants are not forced in a greenhouse and are ready to plant all year round, although spring and fall are the best times. All our plants here at Monadnock Berries are container grown to facilitate easy planting throughout the growing season. The plants range from $15 to $45 depending on size, age and type. All plants are inspected and certified by the NH. Department of Agriculture.

We DO NOT SHIP these plants but you can purchase them at our FARM STAND ON Rt 12 on the North side of Troy, NH. You may also arrange and appointment as long as you call and give at least 24 hours notice (603) 242 6417.

VARIETIES:

EARLY BLUE - EARLIEST - Starts the season off with a bang, had medium-sized medium-sweet fruit and a vigorous growing habit.

PATRIOT - EARLY - It produces large firm fruit and has excellent flavor once fully ripe. The bush is medium height and slow growing. It also shows some resistance to foot rot and is extremely winter hardy, this is the most popular of the newer varieties because of its all-round quality.

DUKE - EARLY - It produces medium to large very firm fruit and is one of the most popular Mid-Atlantic varieties. The bush is both hardy and high yielding, while the fruit is mildly tart.

SPARTAN - EARLY - This is the largest berry we grow, it is light blue in color with a medium-sweet flavor, with a large, open growing bush.

BLUEJAY - EARLY/MID - Its bushes have an upright growth pattern and are perfect for machine harvesting, as all berries in the berry clusters ripen simultaneously.

BLUERAY - MIDSEASON - This is the most popular U Pick variety. It produces a very large fruit with a powder-like blue appearance. The berry is firm with a good aromatic flavor. The bush is vigorous, productive, and very hardy.

BERKELEY - MID-LATE - This variety has luscious foliage and large woody limbs, often growing to over 6 ft tall. The berry is large, light in color and extremely popular for its full spicy flavor. While nurseries lable Berkeley as minimally hardy, we find it withstands our New Hampshire winters better than most of our varieties.

NORTHLAND - MID-LATE - These small, compact bushes fit well into smaller gardens and are extremely winter hardy while baring small to medium-sized, delicious fruit.

ELLIOT - LATEST - The last berries to ripen, becoming sweet a week or more after actually turning blue, the bush is compact with an unusual silvery green foliage. The fruit is superb with an attractive powdery blue appearance, it is extremely winter hardy.
